OFW wins Qur'anic tilt in Libya

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has won top honors in the 1st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Qur’an Reading Competition organized by the Filipino Muslim Consultative Council (FMCC) in Tripoli, Libya.

Philippine Labor Attache Nasser Mustafa assigned in Libya said that various ASEAN expatriates working or living in the Muslim country participated in the Qur’anic tilt conducted at the Dhat El-Emad five-tower complex in Tripoli by the Mediterranean Sea.

Mustafa said Abdul Hassan Mahmud (Philippines) won first place and 2,000 Libyan dinar (LD); Jamaloden Ambulodto (Philippines), second place with LD1,500; and Ali Wardana (Indonesia), third place and LD1,000 (US$1=1.3 LD). The rest of the contestants from the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia got LD100 as consolation prizes.

FMCC, chaired by Atty. Haznor L. Mangondaya, organized the competition on December 4 in conjunction with the celebration of Eid’l Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, and in coordination with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) Philippine Embassy. Byout Al-Rahman Charity Organization, represented by its Managing Director Dr. Abdallah Jarroud and his son, Arabi Jarroud, sponsored the event.

Mustafa and former Philippine Ambassador to Libya, Bayani V. Mangibin, organized the FMCC to put, “Mindanao on the world map through a strong and honest Muslim Mindanao monitoring group to assist in the development of Mindanao and also help the Libyan government in supporting and assisting the Mindanaoans residing in Libya.”
