BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan – Former mayor, now businessman Leocadio “Boy” de Vera Jr., Thursday said he has decided to stage a comeback as mayor of this town in the 2010 elections.

He said he has been asked many times by his constituents to run again for mayor after serving three consecutive terms from 1998 - 2007.

In his continuous nine-year administration as local chief executive of this municipality, De Vera claimed he transformed Bayambang into a center of education.

His scholarship program reportedly benefitted indigent but bright students who are now employed locally and abroad.

“For me, education is important as it is the best way to acquire knowledge and to prepare for a bright future,” he stressed.

De Vera was also responsible in the uplift of Bayambang as a second-class town in terms of revenues as business prospered during his administration due to effective management strategies.

De Vera stressed that one of his visions for Bayambang is to have a transparent and participatory government “Kailangan pahalagahan ng mga namumuno ang tinig ng mga mamamayan at isangguni ang mga hakbangin na isasagawa para sa bayan upang magkaroon ng malinis at malayang pagkakaunawaan tungo sa isang maunlad at mapayapang pamahalaan.”
