Warrants delay keeps massacre suspects scot-free
Before Maguindanao, another massacre of a much smaller proportion — but gruesome still — took place in Makati City. But unlike the case of carnage in Shariff Aguak, not a single suspect has been brought to justice for the slaying of the entire Eguid family.
“Right now there is a delay in the release of arrest warrants for the suspects,” said investigator SPO1 Arnaldo Arcilla of Makati Sub-Station 5. “We know where to get them but we don’t have the proper documents yet,” he said.
Police, with help from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), revealed that they have already determined the whereabouts of suspects Richard and Dindo (full names withheld due to confidentiality) in a province somewhere in Visayas.
Richard and Dindo worked as helpers at the Eguids’ residence at Unit 402, Guijo Condominium, 7623 Guijo St., Sacred Heart, San Antonio, Makati.
In the morning of Sept. 21, Ariel Eguid, 42; his wife Pilar, 50 and only child Adrian, 16 were found riddled with stab wounds. Their bodies were found lying inside the house. Police found no evidence pointing to a motive of robbery.
Arcilla said they have been itching to get hold of the duo’s warrants of arrest ever since. The warrants are still with the Makati prosecutor’s office and we can’t rush them. Holidays kase,” he said.
