4 die, 6 hurt in Tarlac bus accident

A family reunion became a tragedy when four people were killed while six others were injured when a Manila-bound passenger bus collided with an L-300 van in Gerona, Tarlac last Wednesday night.

Senior Supt. Rudy Lacadin, Tarlac police provincial director, said that the incident happened at about 4:45 a.m. along the national highway at Barangay San Antonio, Gerona, Tarlac.

Killed on the spot were Milagrosa Mones, Joseph Galleros, Maricel Galvez, and her mother Marilou.

Wounded were Greg Mones, Rogel Romero, Juzz Orias, Michael Dalao, Gina dalao, and Rey Romero. All victims are passengers of the L-300 van and were on their way to the north.

Police Officer 3 Ernesto Campo Jr. of the Tarlac police said that the victims were cruising along the national highway when the L-300 van they were riding collided with a Manila-bound Florida bus upon reaching a curve portion of the road.

Witnesses said that the bus allegedly encroached the lane where the van was cruising. There ill-fated van was the first of three vehicles on convoy, police said.

Campo said that the victims' van was totally wrecked due to the strong impact of the collision. The passenger bus mowed and uprooted an acacia tree, probers said.

Police said that the bus driver identified admitted he fell asleep while driving resulting to the accident.
