Ramon “Bong” Revilla confirmed speculations that his starrer, “Ang Panday,” which is a winner both at the box office and awards derby of the 35th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), will have a sequel.

“Watch out for the part two!” he told reporters who cornered him and co-star Phillip Salvador right after the MMFF awards ceremony on Dec. 28 at the SMX Convention in Pasay City.

Revilla won best actor for his role as Flavio, a blacksmith chosen to save Pulang Lupa from the wickedness of Lizardo (played by Salvador who was named best supporting actor). The movie ends with a cliffhanger that the war between good and evil is not yet over.

Asked if their other best friend, Jinggoy Estrada, would join them in the sequel, Revilla was non-committal. “Tignan natin,” he said.

What Revilla was certain of was the joy that his father, former action star and Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr., must have felt while he was accepting his acting trophy via a delayed telecast on Channel 9.

“I’m sure he’s crying again,” Bong said. “Every time na may magandang nangyayari sa akin, naiiyak ang daddy ko.”

Unfortunately, the elder Revilla hasn’t seen “Ang Panday” because his poor health prevents him from going to the cinema. He suffered a stroke in October 2008.

Revilla is thankful for the blessings that continue to come his way. “Sabi ko nga, wala na akong mahihiling pa. Talagang lahat na ng biyaya binigay na sa akin ng Panginoon,” he pointed out.

He admitted, though, that he still couldn’t believe that he finally nabbed a best actor award from the MMFF, which he has been a part of for several years as an entry actor and co-producer.

“Para akong lumutang. Overwhelmed. ’Di ko ma-explain,” he shook his head in disbelief.

Salvador supplied the details for him: “Magkatabi kami sa backstage. Tinawag na ang pangalan n’ya. Hindi n’ya alam kung saan dadaan. Sabi ko, ‘Dito ka, dito ka.’”

Revilla replied with a humble revelation: “Sabi ko [naman], ‘Ikaw lang ang naniniwala na mananalo ako.’”

He explained that it was Salvador who helped him bring the role of Flavio, who had been originated and elevated to iconic status by the late Fernando Poe Jr., to life as his own interpretation.

“Pero ikaw pa rin ang gumawa no’n [at] nakita ‘yan ng jurors,” countered Salvador, whose acting prowess was honed by the late great director, Lino Brocka, in his masterpieces such as “Kapit sa Patalim, Bayan Ko,” “Jaguar,” and “Bona.”

Salvador owns numerous acting trophies, including last year’s MMFF best supporting actor.

“I wasn’t expecting [two awards in a row],” he said. “All I wanted was for him to win. He deserves it. Grabe, pinaghirapan n’ya talaga.”
