CAMP CAMACHO, Bataan – The military scored a major breakthrough in its campaign against insurgents following the recovery of three sites of arms cache that were reportedly hidden by the Communist rebels in Central Luzon.

The unearthing of bulks of heavy firearms suspected to be owned by the rebels came after an alleged top commander of the “Sangay sa Partido Platun” Central Luzon Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) guided the military to the area where his comrades hid their firearms in Zambales.

Maj. Gen. Irineo C. Espino, division commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division (ID), said that right after his peaceful surrender to the government, Felisisimo Jacobe, alias “Ka Tonio” and “Berny” through Lt. Col. Juny “DJ” Castro, commanding officer of 3rd Infantry Battalion (IB), led the military to the area where the CPP/NPA stock-filed their heavy firearms and bullets.

Aside from surrendering his own personal firearms, the military said Jacobe also led the government troops to an area where they unearthed an arms cache containing six M16 and three M14 high-powered firearms at the vicinity of Naugsol in Subic, Zambales.

After the successful recovery of the arms cache, Jacobe again led the operating troops of the 3rd IB in unearthing the second arms cache also in Naugsol, Subic, which contains another four M653 rifles, one M16 rifle, and one attached M203, assorted ammunitions and subversive documents.
