An alliance of lawmakers from Northern Luzon led by Ilocos Sur Rep. Eric Singson has endorsed the senatorial bids of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, former justice secretary Silvestre Bello and Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Singson said the lawmakers, also known as the Northern Alliance, believe that Enrile, Bello and Marcos will ably represent not only Northern Luzon but the rest of the country because of their sterling qualifications and accomplishments.

The Northern Alliance is composed of congressmen and congresswomen from Regions 1, 2 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) regardless of political party affiliations. The three regions have a voting strength of more than 5.2 million.

Enrile, who is from Cagayan, is seeking reelection. Bello, on the other hand, is a Free Legal Assistance Group lawyer providing free legal services to victims of injustice and human rights violation.

Bello, who is from Isabela, Ilocos and Davao, was also a member of the government panel that negotiated and signed the first substantive peace agreement with the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People's Army/National Democratic Front and arranged the release of soldiers held as prisoners by the NPA.
