Ilocos Sur local candidates unopposed
VIGAN CITY – Nine mayoral candidates and 11 vice mayoral aspirants from various towns and cities in Ilocos Sur were unopposed in the May 10, 2010 elections, according to the Commission of Election (Comelec) here.
Leading the unopposed mayors of the province is Vigan City Mayor Eva Marie Singson, who is seeking reelection under the Bileg ti Nagkakaisa nga Ilokano political party. The other unopposed mayors of the province are the incumbent Provincial Board Member Zuriel S. Zaragoza, who is running for mayor in Narvacan town; re-electionists mayors Samuel Parilla (Bantay town), Leonofre Geronilla (Salcedo town) and Jesus Jeremy Bueno III (Santa town); Benardo Sarmiento (San Juan town), Nancy Tabanda (San Vicente), Teresita Valle (Sta. Cruz) and Aries Gaerlan (Sigay town). Four of the nine unopposed mayors are re-electionists, three are returning mayors and two are new mayoral bets.
Leading the unopposed vice mayoral candidates in the province are Vigan City’s Ryan V. Singson, one of the sons of Deputy National Security Adviser Luis Chavit Singson, who is returning and running for governor of the province; and Candon City’s Alfonso D. Singson, an incumbent ex- officio Provincial Board Member as he is the president of Ilocos Sur’s Councilor’s League and the older brother of Deputy Speaker Eric D. Singson. The other nine unopposed vice mayors are re-electionists Floro Peredo Jr (Bantay), Charito Zaragoza (Narvacan), Mildred Elaydo (San Esteban) and Jesus Bueno Jr. (Santa); Jose Tabanda III (San Vicente), Samson Bangaoil (Alilem), Nathaniel D. Escobar (Burgos), Leopoldo Geronilla (Salcedo) and Virgilio Valle (Sta. Cruz). Four of the unopposed vice mayors are reelectionists, three are incumbent and last termed mayors who slide down to vice mayoral post and four others are new vice mayoral candidates.
At least one city and six towns in the province have unopposed mayoral and vice mayoral candidates and these are Vigan City and the towns of Bantay, San Vicente, Narvacan, Salcedo, Santa and Sta. Cruz.
