TUBA, Benguet – The Department of Transportation and Communication in the Cordillera Administrative Region (DoTC-CAR) will be constructing a P30 million worth of motor vehicle inspection service (MVIS) in Barangay Badiwan here to be supervised and administered by the agency to serve as a testing center for the road worthiness of motor vehicles plying the different roads in the region.

The DoTC-CAR was forced to look for a property with an area of at least 3,000 square meters in order to house the necessary facilities and equipment required to test the road worthiness of motor vehicles.

However, an inspection team from the DoTC central office will be arriving here next week to inspect the property that is subject of purchase prior to the construction of the necessary facilities for the region’s MVIS.

Lawyer Federico J. Mandapat Jr., DoTC-CAR regional director, said the realization of the long overdue MVIS project in the region will allow the agency to enforce the necessary rules and regulations that will govern the determination whether or not a motor vehicle is considered to be road worthy.

At present, the DoTC-CAR and vehicle owners are having a difficult time seeking the services of the MVIS since they will still have to travel all the way to San Fernando City in Pampanga just to have their vehicles tested and certified to be road worthy.

Earlier, the DoTC central office earmarked P30 million for the construction of the region’s own MVIS over the past several years but the regional office was not able to immediately locate a feasible lot for the facility that will be established.
