Light Rail Transport (LRT) commuters alighting at the Monumento station are asking the Caloocan City government and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to rid the area of "illegal" vendors who encroach and block the station's exit points.

We understand the tolerance of vendors during the holiday season but now that the period is over, it's about time that the authorities restore order in the area," commuters said Sunday.

They claimed vendors are not only using the sidewalks but setting up their stalls at the base of the LRT station stairs, hampering the flow of commuters on their way out of the station.

They said that the presence of so many vendors in the area is increasing the risk of commuters being victimized by muggers and other criminal elements who mingle with shoppers patronizing the sidewalk vendors.

MMDA General Manager Robert Nacianceno earlier said they will conduct saturation drive against illegal vendors in the area in coordination with the city government of Caloocan.
