Lesaca joining tightly contested QC councilor race
Violinist John Lesaca Tuesday said he wants to be recognized not only for his musical prowess but also for his love for nature and advocacy in preserving the environment.
Vying for one of the tightly-contested slots for councilor in Quezon City’s third district, Lesaca serenaded and mesmerized the crowd with his violin during his sorties in the district’s 37 barangays.
Lesaca told the crowd that he finds it gratifying to perform before a highly-appreciative audience from the barangays.
Reports said that residents the third district got carried away with the melancholic tune of Lesaca’s violin, prompting some to bring out chairs and tables in the dimly-lighted parks to watch the performance of a musical genius.
Admitting that he was flattered by the accolades and warm reception, Lesaca, however, said he also wants to be known as an environmentalist.
A member of the Board of Trustees of Haribon Foundation, an environmental group, Lesaca said he is excited about his waste management project, a community-level recycling program aiming to get as much recyclable materials as possible even in the city’s most depressed areas.
Since his election in the Haribon board, Lesaca said he is in the best position to promote environment awareness by planning community participation in programs and events geared towards environmental preservation.
Calling his waste management project as “Trading Post Project,’’ Lesaca said the concept is to create a recycling system for waste products in the community level where the goal is to collect recyclable wastes in every barangay.
