The name Ke$ha may not ring a bell yet but that would soon change with her taking over the top spot of the Billboard Singles Chart.

The New Year’s first number one single, Ke$ha’s song “Tik Tok,” moved 610,000 digital downloads for the week. It is the highest weekly record by a female artist since digital download tracking began in 2003.

“Tik Tok” bested the previous best female record which was Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” (which the singer posted last year).

The highest record to date is Flo Rida’s “Right Round” which posted an amazing 636,000 last February of 2009. By coincidence, Ke$ha had a hand in the success of that song in which she was a guest singer.

"Tik Tok" precedes the young singer’s debut album “Animal” which is set for release this week (Jan. 5) in the US.

Iyaz “Replay” makes the leap from number four last week to overtake Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” for the number two spot. Lady Gaga, meanwhile, stays put at number three.

Owl City’s “Fireflies” improves its standing by going up a notch to number four. Previous number one “Empire State Of Mind” by Jay-Z continues to slide down further, slipping four notches to finish the week at number five.

Jason Derulo improves his position by going up a rung on the pop chart ladder to number six, likewise with Jay Sean who is up a notch this week at number seven with “Down.”

Miley Cyrus is the biggest gainer in the singles top ten chart this week by jumping from number nineteen last week to number eight with her good time-anthem “Party In The U.S.A.”  French DJ David Guetta and his single “Sexy Bitch” a.k.a (“Sexy Chick”) goes down three notches to sit at number nine.

Closing the top singles chart countdown in the US this week is “Do You Remember” by Jay Sean featuring Sean Paul & Lil Jon.
