Music icon Elton John has been helping American rapper Eminem fight his drug problems for more than a year now.

The rock and roll singer and pianist, famous for the songs “Daniel,” "Skyline Pigeon,” “Tiny Dancer,” and “Candle In The Wind,” stated that Eminem is winning in his well-publicized war against drug abuse.

John, a recovered drug abuser himself, told BBC Radio last weekend that he is "happy to offer (his) help to people if they would want it."

He added that “oftentimes drugs and substances make people so cocky and arrogant that they often reject help."

Eminem has written about his substance abuse problems, making it the centerpiece of his last album, 2009's "Relapse."

The rapper responsible for the hits “Stan,” “The Real Slim Shady,” “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” and “Lose Yourself,” admitted that his last album “Relapse” was “not worthy of his fan base.”

“Making ‘Relapse,’ I was still working the drugs out of my system, so there was a lot of jokey sh*t. It was a lot of punchline-y, funny, shock value stuff reminiscent of ‘The Slim Shady LP’ (Eminem’s breakthrough album).

“It wasn’t until I got into songs like ‘Stay Wide Awake’ that I felt my mind got sharper, only towards the end of recording that album.”

Eminem now readily credits his unlikely friendship with Sir Elton John as the catalyst for him to improve his lifestyle and in songwriting as well.

The two had a tenuous start when the rapper, just starting and eager to make his mark in the biz, took to writing controversial lyrics including rants on homosexuality.

Though the media was quick to assail his actions, Elton John, who is known to be gay, agreed to perform the song “Stan” with the rapper during the 2001 Grammys and even embraced the rapper at the end of the performance.
