Doha police arrested the wrong Jason Aguilar Ivler who was tagged in the November 18 killing of Malacanang official’s son in Qatar but he would be still be deported Thursday, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

Welder Jason Aguilar was placed under the custody of Doha police last December 31 after he was mistaken for Jason Aguilar Ivler who was included in the Interpol Red Notice.

Lawyer Angelito Magno, chief of the NBI Special Action Unit (SAU), said it was a case of mistaken identity as  Ivler and Aguilar were almost of the same age.

Ivler was tagged in the shooting to death of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., son of Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. who works in the Office of the Presidential Chief of Staff.

Aguilar’s sister, Janette Lopez, who went to the NBI after learning her brother’s arrest in Qatar, said he has been working in Qatar as welder for a month. She said they were shocked to learn that he was arrested as he has no criminal record.

“We are shocked to learn that he was arrested. Then we were told that he was mistaken for Jason Aguilar Ivler,” she said. His family arrived at the NBI to present his working papers to prove that her brother went there not to hide but to work.

Since the issuance of warrant of arrest for murder, Ivler was put in the Interpol Red Notice.

Magno said authorities and their local counterparts were also verifying the records of persons bearing the name Jasor Aguilar. “Ivler could have used alias like Jason Aguilar so even those who carry Jason Aguilar are being looked into,” he said.

The NBI official said welder Aguilar was already cleared but he would still be deported Thursday. “But the DOHA has a directive that there is need for him to be deported to ascertain his real identity,” he said.

A check with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) showed that Aguilar left for Qatar a day before the killing of Ebarle Jr.

Magno said that based on information reaching the NBI, there is good chance that Ivler remains in the Philippines.

Ebarle was shot dead after he and the man who was armed with .45 caliber pistol  figured in a near collision November 18. The incident occurred at the corner of Boni Serrano and Granada Streets in Quezon City.

Ebarle’s Toyota Land Cruiser almost figured in a collision with the Honda CRV allegedly driven being by Ivler. Ebarle was allegedly shot by the driver of blue Honda CRV.

Police reports showed the driver of the Honda CRV blocked the path of Ebarle’s vehicle and repeatedly shot the government official’s son at close range before fleeing. The Honda C-R-V with plate diplomatic mate 2-0-9-0-3 was traced by operatives of the NBI Special Action Unit (SAU) and Highway Patrol Group-National Capital Region in Dos Concepcion Dos, Rancho Estate, SSS Village , Marikina.
