Forward, March! Looking towards more style in 2010

How is the new year and new decade treating you so far? I don’t know about you, but I find myself excited about 2010. Maybe it’s because Saturn is in Libra and will be until 2012 (according to Susan Miller, whose monthly predictions I devoutly read, it’s the best place for Saturn to be in) or just probably because Spring-Summer is a few months away, which means that we soon should all be taking a stylish stroll towards the latest spring runway collections.
Aquatic
Fashion takes cues from the sea and we’re definitely loving the result. Dubbed as aquatic chic, the fashion crowd were in awe of Alexander McQueen’s “Plato’s Atlantis” featuring exquisite aquatic and reptilian prints. Runners-up are Prouenza Schouler’s scuba-inspired pieces and Tory Burch’s tie-dyed, beach outfits.
Utilitarian
We’ve seen Military and utilitarian-inspired fashion a few seasons back, but just recently this tough trend has been a formidable presence on the Spring 2010 runways. As seen from Alexander Wang, Celine, and Marc Jacobs, function is once again back in fashion.
Floral
Of course, what is spring without its flowers? The floral trend has definitely trickled down from fall to Dolce and Gabbana’s, Erdem’s, and Chanel’s recent collections.
Denim
This timeless fabric is all over the spring runways from Helmut Lang’s denim-focused line to Jean-Paul Gaultier’s and Ralph Lauren’s overalls and Stella McCartney’s minimalist denim dresses.
Quirky accessories
Also seen on the Spring 2010 runways are accessories of the offbeat and quirky persuasion. There is Alexander McQueen’s impossibly stylish heels, or whatever you call those things, Alexander Wang’s clutch that looks like a deflated football, a dinosaur purse from British designer Giles, and, of course, those cute, colorful fox tail fur tassels from Louis Vuitton.
