Face charges in court, Palace tells Lacson
Senator Panfilo Lacson should stop blaming Malacañang for his legal predicament and instead face the charges in court, a Palace official said Friday.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde denied Lacson’s charges that Malacañang is behind the murder charges against him in connection with the murder of publicist Salvador Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito.
“The accusation of the camp of Senator Lacson that the filing of this case is politically motivated is sounding already like a broken record, broken record of old yet warped CD of the President,” Remonde said.
“I think he should not ascribe any political motive. He should face the music. He should face the case squarely as the people he has accused also faced his accusation,” he added.
Remonde said the evidence and testimonies formed the basis of the filing of double murder charges against Lacson by the Department of Justice.
He said Lacson apparently could not accept his latest fate since he was used to being in power and thought he was beyond the reach of the law.
Lacson, who as chief of the Philippine National Police, reportedly ordered the killing of Dacer and his driver in 2000 based on the testimonies of former police officers Cezar Mancao II and Glen Dumlao.
Remonde likewise admitted the Palace is relieved by the latest development in the Dacer-Corbito murder case after several years since the crime were committed. (Genalyn Kabiling)
