GMA raring to accomplish more for the country
President Arroyo is still dissatisfied with her performance despite previous achievements and has asked her cabinet to step up their game in the final leg of her term, a Palace official said Friday.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the President is still raring to accomplish more for the country even though she has been given little public appreciation for her deeds in the past.
Remonde said the Cabinet members, especially those providing frontline services, would now be under tight watch by the President to meet their objectives before her tenure is up.
“Even if we are hitting our targets in many cases even higher, the President is not yet satisfied. The President still wants to be able to do more within the remainder of her term. That’s how driven, that’s how focused this President and this presidency is,” Remonde said.
Remonde warned that those Cabinet members who fail to meet their targets would be dealt with accordingly.
The President, who has suffered low popularity ratings in recent years, has promised to focus more on the economy, education and environment and leave a stable and stronger country for the next administration.
This developed as three non-government organizations on Friday described as grossly unfair allegations by Rep. Risa Hontiveros Baraquiel of allegedly improper spending by President Arroyo over infrastructure projects in Pampanga.
The Kapisanan ng Diwa ng Nayon, Will of Wisdom Foundation and the National Alliance of Barangay Units defended the projects saying that they will benefit the people.
Kapisanan ng Diwa ng Nayon Chair Arsenio Antiporda challenged Baraquiel to first show her accomplishments as a representative, if she has any, before hitting the pro-people projects of the President in Pampanga.
“If Ms. Baraquiel has nothing to show, then she has no moral right to denounce the President, or any other individual working for the people’s welfare,” Antiporda said.
Will of Wisdom Foundation Chairman Ernie Ereneo said projects under the fund being questioned by Baraquiel were completely identified and itemized and were all clearly for the general public.
National Alliance of Barangay Units President Ariel dela Pena said if Baraquiel would rather block instead of support programs that can lead to progress, then she has no right to aspire for public office.
