Key infra projects to boost Ilocos region’s development
VIGAN CITY — The Region 1 Development Council (RDC) chaired by Ilocos Sur Governor Deogracias Victor “DV” B. Savellano reported significant accomplishments on various infrastructure projects implemented region-wide to primarily help pump prime the economy.
Director Leonardo N. Quitos of the Region 1 National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), quoting the report from the RDC’s Regional Project Monitoring Committee, said some of the 63 national and provincial road and bridge projects have been completed while the rest are nearing completion.
“The recorded overall percentage accomplishments of these infrastructure projects posted 79.76 percent with actual disbursement of fund amounting to P885.72 million or 67.4 percent of the amount released as of June 2009,” he said.
Among these major infrastructure projects in Ilocos region include: the rehabilitation/ reconstruction of the Manila North Road; the Ilocos Norte-Apayao and Ilocos Norte-Abra Roads; construction/completion of bridges along the Manila North Road like Sinait Bridge in Sinait, Paing Bridge in Bantay, Gongogong Bridge in San Ildefonso, all in Ilocos Sur; the San Fernando-Bagulin Road, Luna-Balaoan-Bangar Road, San Fernando Airport Road, the San Fernando By-Pass Road Extension; the Alaminos-Bolinao Road, Mangaldan-Manaoag-Binalonan Road, Pangasinan-Nueva Vizcaya Road; and Binalonan-Asingan-Sta. Maria Road.
The Banaoang Pump Irrigation Project in Ilocos Sur posted an overall accomplishment of 82.63 percent while the Agno River Integrated Irrigation Project (ARIIP) had 14.74 percent accomplishment rating. Meantime, the Lower Agno River Irrigation Project recorded 63.51 percent completion rate as of the end of June 2009.
