UAAP football tilt kicks off this Sunday
University of the Philippines starts its bid for a back-to-back crown against University of the East in the 72nd UAAP football tournament which kicks off on Sunday at the Ateneo Football Field in Quezon City.
Led by then-star striker Jose Andoni Santos, the Maroons ousted 2008 champion Far Eastern University in last year's final to win their first men's football title since 2002.
The Maroons and the Red Booters clash at 9:30 a.m. while the Tamaraws battle the Ateneo Eagles at 3 p.m.
On the other hand, women's football competition also starts with La Salle taking on UP at 1 p.m. at the Ocampo Field before Ateneo and FEU meet in the second game at 3 p.m.
Defending champion UST, which won its first-ever crown at the expense of La Salle, drew a bye.
Meanwhile, UST grabbed the early lead after scoring similar lopsided wins at the start of men's tennis action held over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The Tigers blanked both UE and UP, 5-0, to begin their quest to reclaim the title they lost last year to La Salle. The Archers defeated Ateneo, 3-2, on Sunday.
In women's tennis action, reigning title holder UST defeated UP, 4-2, while La Salle trounced Ateneo, 3-2.
