‘Jonjon’ allies air plea to poll body
Supporters of deposed Bulacan Gov. Joselito “Jonjon” Mendoza Tuesday appealed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to follow the right process before coming out with a decision on the motion for reconsideration filed by the latter.
At least 11 bus loads of supporters of Mendoza picketed the Comelec’s office in Intramuros, Manila Tuesday.
“We expect the Comelec Commissioners to follow the right process in order to protect the votes of Bulakeños and not just the interest of a few,” Mendoza’s supporters said in a statement.
"We are convinced that Governor Jonjon is the real elected governor of Bulacan,” the statement further read.
It can be recalled that the Comelec’s Second Division earlier declared Roberto “Obet” Pagdanganan as the duly elected governor of Bulacan in the 2007 mid-term polls.
This, after the recount of the votes of Pagdanganan and his opponent Gov. Joselito Mendoza revealed that the former garnered a total of 342,295 votes compared to Mendoza’s 337,974 votes.
The poll body then directed Mendoza to “immediately vacate the Office of the Provincial Governor of Bulacan; cease and desist from discharging the functions thereof; and peacefully turn-over the said office to protestant Pagdanganan.”
Mendoza was proclaimed winner in the 2007 polls after supposedly garnering 15,000 votes over Pagdanganan. Mendoza purportedly got 364,566 votes.
