The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Wednesday said it believes the percentage that elusive Jason Aguilar Ivler, who was tagged in the Nov. 18 killing of the Malacanang official’s son, is still in the country remains higher than the chance that he managed to slip out the country.

Lawyer Angelito Magno, chief of the NBI Special Action Unit (SAU), said monitoring and guarding the backdoors is so strict that it is difficult to leave the country without being detected.

“There is no record in the Bureau of Immigration (BI) that he left the country. Besides, authorities manning the backdoors like Zamboanga and others are so strict and it so difficult to leave the country without being detected,” he said.

Magno said the percentage that Ivler remains in the country is still higher as compared to the chance that he managed to leave the county without being detective.

The NBI-SAU chief said they have information as to the leads about his whereabouts that are still being verified.

Meanwhile, the NBI framed measures to avoid the incident of mistaken identity that led to the arrest and deportation of welder Jason Aguilar, who was mistaken for Ivler.

“We will do something to enhance coordination with our counterparts through the Interpol Division. On the positive note, this incident gives signal to Ivler that our counterparts are really serious in helping the NBI and the Philippine National Police to arrest him,” said Magno.

Welder Jason Aguilar was placed under the custody of Doha police last Dec. 31 in Qatar after he was mistaken for Ivler who was included in the Interpol Red Notice. He was subsequently deported on Jan. 7.

Magno said he was only told last Jan. 5 about the arrest of Jason Aguilar.

“I asked for the photo and told the Doha police that he was not Jason Iver we are looking for. I don’t know what happened then and I asked for the copy of deportation paper to know why he was deported,” he said.

Magno said it was a case of mistaken identity as Ivler and Aguilar were almost of the same age. Ivler was tagged in the shooting to death of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., son of Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. who works in the Office of the Presidential Chief of Staff.

Ebarle Sr. and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) are now helping Aguilar to go back to his work in Qatar after his deportation.

“Undersecretary Ebarle said he will help Aguilar so he can work again in Qatar, according to Magno. Magno said Ivler should think twice from going to other countries as his movements will be monitored because the counterparts are really serious in helping to arrest him.
