Myrus prepares for first solo concert

A singer is one who takes on a song for singing’s sake while an artist is one who owns it – knowing its musical intricacies and complex emotions.
And with the success of his rendition of the jukebox hit, “Sayang” in his certified gold record album “Love Cycle: Repackaged,” the new sentimental prince of Philippine music rightly deserves the “artist” tag.
“I am grateful for the support that people have shown me. I must admit, though, that I get a little uncomfortable sometimes when people show how much they like my songs, especially ‘Sayang.’ This is really a dream come true for me,” Myrus says.
Come Feb. 27, 2010, another dream of the exceptionally talented recording artist comes true – his first solo concert to be held at the Teatrino in Promenade Mall, Greenhills.
“Myrus has worked so hard in the past year – his promo tour in SM Supermalls nationwide and singing engagements in various TV and corporate shows have all been well-received. Indeed, this concert is a culmination of all that hard work,” says his talent manager and producer Chris Cahilig.
The upcoming concert, “Myrus: The Sentimental Prince (A Tribute to Sentimental Original Pilipino Music),” will be the balladeer’s way to paying tribute to the rich trove of OPM songs, which have served as inspirations for young Filipino artists like him.
“It’s my way of paying tribute to the songs and artists who have enriched the Philippine music industry,” says Myrus, the 2008 ASEA Most Promising Young R&B Performing Artist and nominee for the Best R&B Artist in the First Philippine Radio Music Awards for the song “Laging Ikaw.”
The song selection ranges from top OPM hits in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s as well as sentimental ditties from some of the country’s well-loved Filipino artists.
Myrus says, “I’m really excited to be given such a big opportunity as this. Not many aspiring singers can enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime chance.”
Cahilig, meanwhile, says that the concert and the new album are part of the big plans that his company has for the new singer. “This is just two of the many projects that we have lined up for him in 2010,” he says.
Tickets of “Myrus: The Sentimental Prince” are sold at P1,250 (premium seats) and P1,000 (regular seats).
“Myrus: The Sentimental Prince” is supported by White Flower Embrocation, Mendez Medical Group, Black Water by Ever Bilena, and Dental First. Manila Bulletin is his official media partner.
