Freddie Aguilar blames sister for nephew’s troubles
Folk musician Freddie Aguilar is keen to wash his hands off the case of his fugitive nephew, Jason Ivler.
In an exclusive interview for a TV network, Aguilar claimed that he was among those who asked his sister, Marlene Aguilar, to surrender her son to authorities.
He went on to blame his sister's obstinance on his nephew’s plight.
“Sabi ko no’n kay Marlene na isuko na niya si Jason dahil mas madali ang gano’n kaysa naman sa nangyari sa pamangkin ko. Kaya lang, hindi niya ako sinunod. Ngayon, ganyan ang nangyari," said he.
Ivler is the prime suspect in the killing of a son of Malacañang official, Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., over a traffic altercation in November last year. The Filipino-Amercian, allegedly a former soldier who served in Iraq, went into hiding and was hunted down by law enforcers.
Marlene had denied in past interviews that she had knowledge of her son’s whereabouts.
Ivler engaged authorities in a shoot-out on Jan. 18 when cornered in their QC home—where he was hiding all along. He is now confined at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
According to Aguilar, his nephew once denied to him all the accusations being thrown at him.
“Ang sabi kasi sa akin ni Jason no’n, wala siyang kinalaman sa mga ibinibintang sa kanya,” he said.
Aguilar said he is sad over what happened to his nephew, and asked for impartiality.
“I feel very depressed and sad about what happened to Jason. But I think we should be objective about the whole thing,” he pleaded.
Aguilar, who rose to fame for his song “Anak,” about a wayward son coming to his senses realizing his parents’ many sacrifices, said he has not been able to get in touch with his sister as yet, but he is planning to visit Ivler at the hospital soon.
