The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday that there is a “growing clamor” from the Filipinos in Haiti to be repatriated to the Philippines.

This was according to a report by Philippine Ambassador to Havana MacArthur Corsino, who is also the head of the Philippine Recovery-Relief-Repatriation Task Force in Haiti.

Filipinos in Haiti are under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in Havana, Cuba.

Corsino met with the leaders of the Filipino Community Tuesday in Haiti to discuss measures to help the members of the Filipino community and to reach out to community members in other parts of the country.

The Philippine Task Force to Haiti is overseeing relief operations for the Filipino community there and making arrangements for the repatriation of Filipinos who want to return to Manila. The embassy-led task force will issue travel documents to those without passports and with expired passports.

The repatriation will be by land transport from Port-au-Prince to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and thereafter a flight to Manila.
