The .45 caliber pistol reportedly used by Jason Ivler during a shootout with law enforcers last Jan. 18 inside his house in a posh subdivision in Quezon City was the same gun reportedly used in the shooting to death of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. during the Nov. 18 road rage, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Thursday.

NBI Director lawyer Nestor M. Mantaring released the result of ballistic examination of the handgun used by Ivler in the killing of Ebarle Jr. and during the shootout with the bureau operatives at his house at 23 Hillside Drive Blue Ridge A Subd., Quezon City last January 18.

“Report from the NBI Firearms Investigation Division (FID) revealed that one bullet found from the body of Ebarle Jr. and bullet coming from the Toyota Land Cruiser of victim Ebarle Jr. and the bullet found at the residence of Ivler matched those of the test bullets from Kimber .45 caliber pistol with SN MJ59102,” said Mantaring.

Mantaring further said: “Said firearm was recovered from Jason Aguilar Ivler during an encounter with the NBI agents.”

“Ballistic examination disclosed that they all came from a .45 caliber pistol of Ivler, according to Mantaring, adding that the both the .45 caliber pistol and the M.16 Armalite recovered from Ivler were unlicensed.

Deputy Director for Technical Services lawyer Reynaldo Esmeralda said ballistic examination result also revealed that Ivler both fired the .45 caliber pistol and M.16 rifle when he traded shots with NBI operatives.

“Based on evidence, he fired more than 10 shots at law enforcers,” said Esmeralda.

Meanwhile, lawyer Angelito Magno, chief of Special Action Unit (SAU), said Ivler will be slapped with direct assaults with illegal possession of firearms, frustrated murder and attempted murder charges.

“Additional three separate criminal charges will be filed against him anytime this day (Jan. 21). The illegal possession of firearms is absorbed in direct assaults and then the frustrated murder for the wound inflicted by Special Investigation Anna Lira Labao and attempted murder for the wound sustained by Magno,” said Mantaring.

Mantaring said the result of the ballistic examination would bolster the murder charges filed against Ivler. “This will be additional evidence. But the investigation continues. We will still evaluate the actions of British diplomat Stephen Pollard before and during the service of warrant,” said the NBI director.

Ivler was tagged in the shooting to death of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., son of Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. who works in the Office of the Presidential Chief of Staff.

The killing of Ebarle Jr. occurred at the corner of Boni Serrano and Granada Streets in Quezon City. Ebarle was shot dead after he and the man who was armed with .45 caliber pistol figured in a near collision Nov. 18.

Ebarle’s Toyota Land Cruiser almost figured in a collision with the Honda CRV allegedly driven being by Ivler. He was allegedly shot by the driver of blue Honda CRV.
