ABL: Slingers rip Brunei

The Singapore Slingers nailed at least a home-court advantage in the semifinals after smashing the Brunei Barracudas, 87-69, Wednesday in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Brunei Indoor Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan.

American imports Michael LeBlanc and Kyle Jeffers fired 26 and 19 points, respectively, as the Slingers improved to a record of 9-4, a half-game behind the Philippine Patriots for the elusive home-court advantage in the playoffs.

The only way for the Singaporeans to secure the top spot from the Patriots is to beat the Thailand Tigers on Sunday at the Nimibutr National Stadium in
Bangkok and hope that the Patriots, who sport a 10-4 card, lose to the Barracudas on the same day at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

A win by the Patriots will give them the home-court advantage in the semis and finals of the fledging six-nation league.

The loss dropped the Barracudas to a share of fourth to fifth places with the Kuala Lumpur Dragons.

Former PBL star Al Vergara was one of five Slingers in double figures with 15 points. (Tempo Sports)
