Eager to prove himself as the true life blood of the acoustic pop group Make Your Momma Proud [MYMP], guitarist Chin Alcantara recently announced that he is continuing with the band, this time with a new singer in the person of Juliet Bahala.

Bahala replaced Juris Fernandez who, late last year, decided to follow the path taken by other ex-MYMP members—including former boyfriend Michaelangelo’s Michael Manahan— who have left the group due to “irreconcilable professional differences.”

Bahala hails from Davao. She reportedly clinched the singer’s chair by besting 15 other aspirants.

According to a press statement released by Alcantara, Bahala is a gem of a find.

"Juliet's demo was the first one we heard and right away I knew she was the one. But our [new] manager [Tere Tinio] convinced me to wait and listen to other applicants; but Juliet stood out. She fits all the criteria: distinct voice, versatile yet has her own style, and impressive technique and range," said he.

Although she undoubtedly has big shoes to fill, Bahala is seemingly enthusiastic about her new role.

"I have been a fan of love songs long before. When I heard that MYMP was looking for a new singer, I thought that even if my voice is different from their style, I will have a great input in this band.

“And I also heard from my friend, who helped me audition, that Chin arranges all the songs and that he is a perfectionist when it comes to music. So I know that I will be in good hands," said Juliet.

With Bahala on board, Alcantara revealed that he wants to veer MYMP from the idea of a duo or an acoustic act. He is planning to reintroduce the group as a full band with a new sound.

"I want to maximize the talents and versatility of my new singer and instrumentalists. Expect a new sound from MYMP," he beamed.

MYMP will release a new album this year under Star Records. The group will be debuting with Bahala with a performance on “ASAP XV” on Jan. 24.
