Kuwait affirms death sentence on Filipino OFW
The Highest Court in Kuwait has affirmed the death sentence of a female Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) according to a group of OFWs in the Middle East.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-based John Leonard Monterona, regional coordinator of the Migrante-Middle East said Friday they learned about the affirmation of the verdict by the Kuwait’s Court of Cassation last January 19 of OFW Jakatia Pawa’s death sentence by hanging issued sometime in January 2007 by a lower court.
Pawa was convicted for allegedly stabbing to death her employer's 20-year-old daughter.
The Filipina domestic helper denied the accusation saying that a relative of the victim was the real culprit.
Migrante-ME said despite pronouncement from Malacañang and the Department of Foreign Affairs, OFWs on their own will “exhaust all legal remedies and take diplomatic initiatives to spare OFW Pawa from death by reviving their “Save OFW Pawa” campaign.
“We will closely keep an eye on OFW Pawa’s case and will tightly observe the actions to be undertaken by the Arroyo administration,” Monterona said.
