Agri-food expansion pledged

Nacionalista Party senatorial candidate Ramon “Monmon” Mitra will draw up measures that will help expand and strengthen the country’s agri-food exports and augment farmers’ incomes.

Mitra said that once elected, he will make sure that provisions of the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act or Republic Act 8435 are implemented for the benefit of farmers and fisherfolk.

“Rationalization of the existing institutional mechanisms should be implemented to strengthen private-public partnership and make it more efficient in expanding agri-food exports, facilitating modernization and growth of the sector,” he said.

Mitra said he also sees the need for government to allocate substantial funds for the rehabilitation of typhoon-affected provinces particularly the agriculture sector.

Mitra, scion of the late Ramon “Monching” Mitra Jr., who was senator and speaker, assured the public that he will advocate for transparency in government.

“I am for change and I will reach out to people even to the remotest of barangays,” he said.

His foray into politics is destiny, Mitra said, believing that “no matter how I try to avoid it, it seems like destiny has followed me.”

Mitra is armed with 21 years experience in the military, private business and family-owned corporations.
