A relative of former police chief Arturo Lomibao was gunned down in Quezon City before dawn Sunday by his neighbor whom he teased as a look-alike of actor Robin Padilla.

Chief Insp. Benjamin Elenzano, head of the homicide investigation unit of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), identified the victim as construction worker Joselito Lomibao Gubatan, 29, a resident of No. 7, 3rd Planas St., Barangay Kaunlaran, Quezon City.

Gubatan sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and was declared dead on arrival at the Quezon Memorial and Medical Center.

Meanwhile, QCPD director Chief Supt. Elmo San Diego confirmed that Gubatan is a relative of Lumibao, a former chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Elenzano said according to witnesses, the suspect who shot and killed Gubatan was identified as Bong Rodriguez, 31, a resident of No. 12 also along 3rd Planas St. The suspect remains at large.

The police official said the shooting incident took place at around 1:50 a.m. along 3rd Planas St.

At that time, the victim was having a chat with friends when the suspect appeared.

Witnesses said the victim teased Rodriguez. “Binoy (referring to Robin Padilla), maporms ka ngayon ah (you’re all dressed up),” Gubatan was heard to have said.

The suspect apparently did not take the remark lightly as he quickly drew his gun and fired at Gubatan repeatedly.

After the suspect fled, friends and relatives rushed the victim to the hospital but he was dead on arrival.
