Tawi-Tawi sees bright economic prospects
BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi – Bright economic and environment prospects await the people of Tawi-Tawi Province after organizers of the 2nd Environment and Economic Summit said they have attained and achieved their goal during the two-day conference held at the Datu Amirbahar Jaafar Convention Center in this capital town.
Tawi-Tawi Gov. Sadikul Sahali said the objectives of the summit were attained by the convenors during the two-day gathering of brilliant economic and environment minds in this town.
According to Sahali, the convenors of the summit were able to assess and evaluate all the economic and environmental initiatives that were agreed for development and implementation after the holding of the 1st Environment and Economic Summit on September 16 and 17, 2006.
These include, he said, the review of all plans and programs geared towards the development of policies under the Provincial Investment and Environment Codes.
The participants numbering almost 300 were able to draft a framework of environmental management and economic development program for Tawi-Tawi for the next 10 years (2010 to 2020), he said.
The success of the summit was manifested after an assessment report and impression on the environmental programs and policies has been given a high rating by the economists and environment experts in attendance to the summit.
These include the various socio-economic and environment protection activities initiated by the provincial government here for the people of the province.
The environmentalists have also agreed in principle on how to proceed with the Revision of the Provincial Economic and Environmental Framework Plan (PDPFP) in order to make it more effective in the implementation of the Tawi-Tawi Environment and Investment Codes in the coming years.
