Ivler’s mom to face more criminal raps, says NBI
The National Bureau of Investigation on Monday said Marlene Aguilar, mother of road rage murder suspect Jason Ivler, would be charged as her son’s accomplice after she was found to have been secretly communicating with Ivler when agents came to arrest him last week in their house in Quezon City.
Ross Bautista, executive officer of the NBI Office of Intelligence Services, said they found in Aguilar’s possession communications devices, including an earpiece, which would be used as evidence to charge her with frustrated murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
“The filing of additional charges against Ivler was delayed after we found during the inventory of evidence the set of gadget like earpiece and mobile phone which Aguilar used in allegedly communicating with Ivler when we entered the house to serve the warrant of arrest against him,” Bautista said.
He said Ivler knew the movements of the NBI agents during the January 18 arrest operation, which resulted in the serious wounding of two agents and Ivler himself when the latter opened fire at the government men, triggering a shootout.
“We strongly believe that our movements were being relayed by Aguilar to Ivler. We saw her that she seemed talking to someone and she had an earpiece,” he said.
“If Aguilar indeed knew the movement of Ivler then she will be charged as an accomplice,” he said.
“She will be charged as accomplice for attempted murder for wound sustained of lawyer Angelito Magno, chief of the NBI Special Action Unit and frustrated murder of Special Investigator Anna Lira Labao of the Office of Intelligence Services,” said Bautista.
Ivler was arrested after he was tagged in the fatal shooting of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., son of Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. of the Office of the Presidential Chief of Staff, during a road altercation in November.
NBI Deputy Director for Technical Services lawyer Reynaldo Esmeralda earlier dismissed Aguilar’s claims that her British bodyguard was behind Ebarle’s killing.
Bautista also said Ivler, who was brought to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center for treatment of two gunshot wounds sustained during his arrest, could soon be transferred to the NBI jail depending on the advice of his doctors.
"Isinasaalang-alang din natin yung kalagayan nung ating subject na si Jason. Pero kung kaya niya na naman na magpagaling dun sa ating selda e, gagawin po natin yan," Bautista said.
Doctors told the NBI that Ivler has lately been able to sit upright and eat with minimal assistance. (With a report from Rizal Obanil)
