The Philippines and US military will conduct humanitarian operations in areas affected by devastating typhoons last year.

The US Embassy in Manila on Monday said the Philippines and US military will conduct humanitarian mission during Operation Pacific Angel on February 15 to 22, 2010 and during the Balikatan on March 9 to 19, 2010.

Operation Pacific Angel will be conducted in Ilocos Norte while projects through Balikatan 2010 will take place in Ilocos Sur, Central Luzon and Cavite.

“Operation Pacific Angel and Balikatan 2010 will be a continuation of reconstruction efforts following the typhoons that devastated parts of the country last year,” outgoing US Ambassador Kristie Kenney said in a statement.

“These are extraordinary opportunities for the militaries of our two great nations to work together and learn from each other for the benefit of the civilian population of our friend and ally, the Philippines,” she said.

Humanitarian assistance will include medical, dental, and veterinary care and construction and repair of schools and other infrastructure in communities.

Training for the Philippines and American armed forces, meanwhile, will focus on providing relief and assistance in the event of natural disasters as well as other crises that endanger public health and safety. (Madel Sabater)
