Limcaoco chides members of Congress
The House of Representatives should practice “quorum” and the Senate to observe “decorum” to fast track the approval of pending priority bills before they go on a break for the campaign period, a Palace official said Tuesday.
Philippine Information Agency (PIA) chief Conrado Limcaoco reminded the lawmakers about work ethics and their legislative duties with only a few days left in the session.
“The House and the Senate are independent bodies. We’ve already sent the bills that are priority and again the question of quorum and decorum, I think they should manage that themselves. Quorum in the Lower House and decorum in the Senate are some things that they should manage themselves,” Limcaoco said in a news conference in the Palace.
“We hope that they will see their way clear to passing some of these measures before they adjourn,” added Limcaoco, officer-in-charge of the Office of the Press Secretary until the formal oathtaking of Manila Bulletin editor-in-chief Crispulo Icban Jr.
The latest remark from Limcaoco came after the House of Representatives adjourned session last Monday due to lack of quorum while the Senate bickered over an ethics case against Senator Manuel Villar Jr.
Asked if the Palace is concerned by the apparent poor work ethics of the lawmakers, Limcaoco said the executive branch has already certified as urgent some bills and it was up to Congress to act on these measures at their own pace.
