Paolo Abrera as possible 'Survivor' host

Suzi Entrata-Abrera of “Unang Hirit” and “Full Time Moms” considers it an honor for her husband Paolo Abrera to be on the list of prospective hosts of GMA-7’s “Survivor Philippines.” Paolo had been on that list even before it was launched in 2008 and now that the network’s original choice, Paolo Bediones, has moved to TV5, the prospect of being re-considered is not lost on Suzi.
“He’ll be more visible [if he gets picked]. OK ‘yan sa akin,” she tells Manila Bulletin Entertainment Online in an interview on the set of Q Channel 11’s daily primetime program that puts mothers in the limelight.
“But he’s a family man so that makes all the difference,” she points out. “'Yon nga, matagal siyang mawawala sa bansa if ever. If [the opportunity] came [at the] time na wala naman siyang asawa…or kahit mag-asawa na kami, OK lang kung wala pang kids…siguro the decision would be easier to make.”
The format of the “Survivor” reality show franchise requires its host to interact in certain segments with the contestants who will be isolated in a secluded location for 39 days.
Suzi and Paolo have been married for nine years and they have three kids: Leona, 6; Jade, 5; and Antonella, 3. “He’s very close to them,” she says of him.
Still, she agrees that Paolo is perfect for the job because, as he has shown in his hosting stints on his first gig, “GamePlan”—where the couple first met in 1995 as TV newbies, along with Paolo Bediones—up to his current program, “Chances Are,” he has the chops for it and the adventuresome personality in sync with the “Survivor” spirit.
So, says Suzi, it’s really up to Paolo if he’ll accept the job if ever it’ll be offered to him. “He might actually, [and] then he can challenge himself,” she avers.
Suzi also shares that Paolo isn’t only into hosting but is also involved in all areas of TV work as co-owner of a production house, which is really his bread and butter.
When asked about movie acting, which Paolo had done in the ‘90s flicks “Sabado Nights” and “Radio Romance,” Suzi replied, with a laugh, that it was a thing of the past for her husband.
“Sabi niya sana ‘pag tapos niyang umarte wala nang papansin sa kanya kaya lang siyempre after that, may promo, may interviews. Siyempre ang asawa ko, malayo ang personality n’ya sa gano’n,” she relates.
