Penalty set for cops violating gun ban
Policemen arrested for violation of the nationwide gun ban will be sent to police training schools to undergo a 30-day disciplinary program aimed at stressing that they themselves must respect the law, a top police official said Saturday.
As the number of arrested cops continues to rise, Director General Jesus Verzosa, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, warned all police personnel that they will be relieved and reassigned to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) if they are arrested for gun ban violation.
“Similar sanctions will be meted on police unit commanders who shall be found remiss in their duty to conduct operations against gun-ban violators and Partisan Armed Groups,” said Verzosa.
As to those who were already collared, Verzosa said he had already instructed all regional directors nationwide to reassign the erring cops to the Regional Special Training Unit (RSTU) to undergo a 30-day Character and Aptitude Development Training (CADET) program.
