LP allies criticize ‘Gibo’ stand on RH bill
Congressional allies of Liberal Party standard bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III Sunday ganged up on another rival in the presidential race by assailing his decision to abandon the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill.
Reps. Ruffino Biazon (LP, Muntinlupa City) and Walden Bello (Akbayan Party-list) issued separate press statements chiding Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential bet Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro for giving up on the reproductive health measure now pending in Congress.
The press statements came out at the height of LP’s relentless attacks against another Aquino rival, Nacionalista Party presidential bet Sen. Manuel Villar, in connection with the C-5 double insertion issue.
“One by one, they are turning tail. First, we have a presidential candidate who continues to evade serious allegations of corruption concerning a road project, now we have another aspirant who bowed to the threat of blackmail by powerful religious lobbyists,” Bello said.
On the other hand, Biazon claimed that Teodoro’s decision is “good only for sound bites and publicity and not public policy.”
Biazon and Bello are among the supporters of the RH bill that had been sent to the legislative backburner by the House leadership, apparently in response to the Catholic Church’s objection against it.
