Trillanes asks judge to wait for Honasan’s testimony
Detained Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and other Magdalo soldiers involved in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny urged the Makati Regional Trial Court to allow Senator Gregorio Honasan to testify for their defense before resolving their seven-year-old coup d’état case.
Through counsel Ernesto Francisco Jr., Trillanes asked Judge Oscar Pimentel of the Makati RTC branch 148 to differ the resolution of the trial and to accommodate the testimony of Honasan, who they claim is more than willing to take the witness stand.
In a nine-page motion for reconsideration, Francisco asked Pimentel to reassess his order dated December 23, 2009 to end the defense presentation of evidence after Honasan’s non-appearance on December 16 and 17 hearings.
It was recalled that Pimentel gave Honasan his last chance to testify before finally submitting the case for resolution.
In the same order, the judge said that the court will not allow any further postponement for his testimony.
“While it is true that the Honorable Court has been very lenient with the accused with respect to giving them the opportunity to present Senator Honasan in their defense, the accused respectfully submit that they should be accorded greater leniency considering that what is at stake in the instant proceeding are their lives and liberties, as well as the lives and future of their respective families,” Francisco said.
