The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has adopted a no-noon break policy to serve the interest of taxpayers by providing them with uninterrupted service.

“This would result in increased voluntary compliance that will eventually boost all our efforts to raise at least R830 billion before the end of the year,” BIR Commissioner Joel L. Tan-Torres said.

In a memorandum order, Tan-Torres instructed all frontliners to adopt a rotating work schedule to ensure that services are extended to taxpayers even at noontime.

Tan-Torres also instructed regional directors and revenue district officers to service taxpayers who are still in the bureau’s premises at the end of office hours.

BIR offices were also reminded to make certain the availability of electronic taxpayer services for 24 hours, seven days a week.

The BIR’s frontline service offices include the Large Taxpayers Service, Collection Service, Assessment Service, Taxpayers’ Assistance Service, Legal Service and all the divisions under each service.

“The thrust of our projects and programs are geared towards achieving service excellence to maximize voluntary compliance of taxpayers,” Tan-Torres said.

He said “we believe this is the most effective means of revenue collection.”
