BUTUAN CITY – At least 1,000 persons, mostly lumads, from the far-flung villages of Sto. Tomas and Carmen towns in Davao del Norte benefited from the feeding program conducted by the Philippine Army (PA) along with local government units (LGUs) in the area.

The feeding program initiated by the Army’s 1003rd Infantry Brigade (IB) in cooperation of the LGUs and village councils of Carmen and Sto. Tomas towns.

The project is currently spearheaded by Brig. Gen. Eduardo del Rosario, commanding officer of 1003rd IB, his deputy commander Col. Domingo Tutaan, Brigade’s operation officer Maj. Sandy David, and civil military operations officer 1Lt. Harold Ho.

The first feeding program started in Barangay Alejal, Carmen town, where numerous far-flung residents especially natives were recipients.

Top municipal and village officials led by Carmen Mayor Marcelino Perandos also sponsored the humanitarian project.

During the program, Del Rosario discussed the role of soldiers in protecting the people and as partners in nation building.

While Perandos also appreciated the efforts of the military in his municipality.

“In behalf of my people, I congratulate the military for keeping up the good work in maintaining peace and order in my area. I also appreciate their efforts of rendering community oriented services to my constituents,” added the municipal mayor.

The soldiers served the newly cooked “lugaw” (porridge) and cold fruit juices to the children and adults who lined up to get their share. Some even went back to get another round of serving because they enjoyed the taste.

The military also brought along with them their medical team and served the residents in line with their medical and dental program.
