The Philippines has been criticized for not having a football field that satisfies international standards. A substandard field has also been blamed for the failure of the Philippines to effectively train its national team for foreign competitions.

That may soon change if the plan of the Philippine Sports Commission pushes through.

PSC chairman Harry Angping has announced that the Rizal Memorial football stadium will undergo a massive facelift and rehabilitation to make it on par with some of the best playing fields in the region.

Angping also expects that with a modern football field, the sport will enjoy a much-needed revival and make Filipino players more respectable in the eyes of our Asean neighbors.

The rehab will start sometime next month and will be finished in six months.

Angping said he met over lunch with La Salle head Bro. Bernie Oca, who expressed the school’s desire to participate in the plan to upgrade the football field.

“This is going to be a breakthrough not only for Philippine sports but for the sport of football,” said Angping. “Football occupies a special place in the heart of La Salle since the school is known as a football-loving school.”
