The Quezon City Majority Floor Leader Friday assured regular city hall employees of security of tenure amid reports that they would be fired if they will not support the mayoral candidacy of Vice-Mayor Herbert Bautista.

Councilor Ariel Inton of the city’s fourth district made the assurance even as he clarified that there is no government policy that jeopardizes the jobs of employees who do not support the candidacy of any political aspirant.

“If there is any firing going at the city hall I believe that there is no basis for the retrenchment as this should first pass through due process particularly at the Civil Service Commission (CSC),’’ Inton noted.

He advised city hall employees to distance themselves from any local political issues, saying that public service should not be tainted with controversies as a result of partisan politics.

Inton, who is running for mayor, claimed that majority of the members of the Quezon City Council is supporting his candidacy despite initially lagging behind in the surveys.

As QC Council Majority Floor Leader, Inton is a member of the city hall’s selection board tasked to approve the promotion of city government’s personnel.

Inton said that he has no prejudice with anyone saying that he will not hesitate to sign the promotion of qualified city hall employees even those under the vice-mayor’s office.

The other members of the city hall’s selection board are Councilor Jesus Manuel Suntay and Aproniano Boongaling, senior adviser to the mayor.
