Rain or Shine survived a fourth quarter comeback by Purefoods TJ Hotdogs to carve out a pulsating 103-100 victory and force a do-or-die encounter in their own quarterfinal showdown.

Eddie Laure atoned for his blunder in Game 2 with a booming three-point shot that enabled the Elasto Painters to regain the lead, 101-100 with 1:04 left.

In the next play, Purefoods guard Roger Yap lost control of the leather and Rain or Shine’s Sol Mercado, who had 24 points, saved the ball.

Jeff Chan, who was fouled by Yap in the next play, made two free throws for a 103-100 lead with 6.9 seconds to play. and eventually tied the series at 2-all.

Kerby Raymundo, who scored 34 points including 14 in the fourth when he led a comeback from 18 point down (58-76), and Niño Canaleta missed their respective three-point attempts one after another as time expired. — Waylon Galvez
