Arroyo resumes region tour
President Arroyo is slated to tour another super region, Luzon Urban Beltway, this week and would likely miss out on most of the campaign rallies of administration candidates.
Deputy Presidential Spokesman Gary Olivar said the President would be busy highlighting the government’s achievements in terms of building modern infrastructure and developing regional logistics hubs during tour around Luzon Urban Beltway. Her first stop will be Batangas province today.
Due to her hectic schedule, Olivar said the President is unlikely to attend the administration presidential bet Gilbert Teodoro’s campaign kickoff in Antipolo City on Tuesday, start of the campaign period for national candidates.
On that same day, Mrs. Arroyo, president emeritus of the ruling party, is scheduled to hold a Cabinet meeting in Bulacan as part of the tour around Luzon Urban Beltway.
“I don’t think it is in her schedule. If she's not attending, we should not be surprised because the President is very busy, she is hardworking. On top of everything, she is going on a legacy communication campaign,” Olivar said over government radio, when asked if the President would attend Teodoro‘s rally.
Olivar said Teodoro, former defense secretary, is well capable of leading the administration party’s campaign without necessarily the help of President Arroyo.
Despite the absence of the President in Teodoro’s campaign rallies, Olivar said the President remains supportive of Teodoro, who has been packaged as the most brilliant successor of the President, in the upcoming polls.
