In commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, Malacañang declared Monday February 22 as a special holiday in all schools.

Under Mrs. Arroyo’s Proclamation No. 1841, February 22 was declared as a special holiday to serve as an “inspiration to all Filipinos everywhere as we continue to chart our collective course as a nation and as a people.”

February 22 is the Monday nearest February 25. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9492, all holidays, except those which are religious in nature, are moved to the nearest Monday unless otherwise modified by law, order or proclamation.

The President signed Proclamation No. 1841 in July 21 last year declaring this year’s regular holidays, special non-working days and special holidays for all schools.

The nation annually celebrates the People Power Revolution that led to the restoration of basic liberties, including freedom of speech, assembly and press freedom and ushered political, social and economic reforms in the country after 14 years of martial law regime under late President Ferdinand Marcos.
