Binay Jr. says he’ll face more responsibility
Despite the difficulty of coping with the recent death of his wife and being single parent to his four children, Makati Councilor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. Tuesday declared he is ready to accept bigger responsibilities, such as being the mayor of the country’s financial district.
It was the first time that the councilor openly talked about his hardship since the passing away of Kennely Ann Lacia-Binay six months ago during the launching of the Cervical Cancer Awareness Drive in Makati City.
Binay Jr. briefly walked out of the conference room where an audio-visual of cervical cancer survivors was presented. He later disclosed that he still gets emotional whenever seeing or hearing people dying.
“I had to leave because I feel uncomfortable seeing women dying. It is very difficult for me since it has only been six months since my wife died and just like other people, I am still coping up with the loss. She did not die of cervical cancer but she died during childbirth and so I am now left with our four children,” he said.
Kennely died of massive bleeding due to a low-lying placenta last August 11. She gave birth to a seven-month premature baby, Ma. Kennely Ann. Councilor Binay said the situation of “Baby Kennely” remains delicate but said she is generally normal.
But despite his current family situation, Binay Jr. said it will not interfere with his duty to the public, especially if elected to succeed his father, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay.
