‘Gibo’ to youth: Engage in ‘positive activism’
Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential standard bearer Gilberto “Gibo’’ Teodoro Thursday called on young people to engage in positive activism by demanding from the government actions and decisions they deserve.
Teodoro made the call following his visit to Centro Escolar University (CEU) in Mendiola, Manila, where he was welcomed by more than 6,000 students last Monday.
At the CEU forum “Tapatan Sa Mendiola,” Teodoro said Filipinos, the young in particular, can force the government to shape up by playing an active role in influencing the actions and decisions of whoever becomes President in the May election.
“Your role does not end with the voting of your selected candidate. You must also remind him or her that once elected, he or she must work to fulfill campaign promises,” Teodoro said.
The audience warmed to his appeal for “positive activism,” as he stressed in his call to action that an active citizenry “is an essential party of democracy.”
That participatory democracy requires Filipinos to give their inputs to enable the government to improve its efficiency in the delivery of its services and other projects.
“With us working us a team, I have no doubt that the country will be on its path to progress soon,” Teodoro stressed.
As in college and university campuses he has visited since last month, Teodoro stirred a wave of excitement and enthusiasm at the Mendiola campus, where he dazzled with his grasp of national issues and advocacy of youth activism in the affairs of government.
Teodoro earlier took a mall tour in Metro Manila to make himself visible and accessible to the youths, which have evolved into a massive constituency for the 45-year-old Bar topnotcher, former defense secretary and licensed commercial pilot.
Meanwhile, Laguna First District Rep. Daniel “Dan” Fernandez said the welfare of the country’s youth will be a priority under a Teodoro administration.
Fernandez joined Teodoro and his party in visiting the Colegio De San Pedro, in San Pedro, Laguna during the celebration of its first-ever information technology week attended by around 2,000 of students and faculty members who gave the presidential candidate a rousing welcome.
At the forum, Teodoro pledged to provide anti-flood infrastructure to the province to contain the flooding caused by the swelling of the Laguna de Bay, and a road network that will make travel and commerce easier between Northern and Central Luzon.
