LP backs Gomez in Comelec appeal
The Liberal Party (LP) described as another form of political harassment the recent disqualification of actor Richard Gomez from the congressional race for Leyte’s fourth district.
LP Chairman and former Senate President Franklin Drilon said the party will support Gomez in appealing the decision of the Commission on Election to bar him from running, citing lack of required residency.
Drilon said Gomez’s case confirms the patter of the administration’s political harassment to LP’s local candidates, following the recent ouster of other LP allies Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio, Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca and Bulacan Gov. Jon Jon Mendoza. Aside from Gomez, Palawan Rep. Abraham Mitra was also disqualified by the Comelec to run for the province’s gubernatorial race. (Kris Bayos)
