BACOLOD CITY — Iggy Clavecilla wrapped up his campaign in the Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub golf championships with 48 points Friday and declared that Luisita is ready to win its 14th seniors crown in the Philippine Airlines Interclub golf championships.

“I have utmost faith in my teammates to bring home the bacon,” said Clavecilla after helping the Sweet Swingers build a six-point lead over defending champion Canlubang halfway through the event.

Clavecilla nearly did not make the trip following the untimely death of his mother-in-law. He arrived on the eve of the event and shot 45 points Thursday at the Marapara golf course.

“Binitin played much tougher than Marapara yesterday because of the wind, but we handled it well,” said Clavecilla who took the evening flight back to Manila.

Richie Garcia, who led Luisita with 50 points, doesn’t share Clavecilla’s optimism.

“Six points is nothing in the Interclub,” said Garcia who mixed one birdie and five bogeys. “Tomorrow’s round is crucial. If we maintain or even increase the lead, we have a good chance on Sunday at Marapara.”

Bong Sison rounded out Luisita’s scoring with 48 points. Carlo Gamban, playing for the second straight day, failed to count with 45.

Luisita has a two-day total of 275 for the lead as overnight leader Orchard slipped into the standings as expected.

Canlubang drew 51 points from Dave Hernandez, but could only get 89 points from Luigi Yulo (45) and Rolly Viray (44) for a two-day total of 269. Tony Olives’ 42 did not count.

While Canlubang has already fielded all its players, Luisita still has two players that are still fresh going into the last two rounds – Francis Gaston and rookie Herminio Maravilla.

With Gaston and Maravilla in the lineup, Luisita looks it has enough firepower to face a Canlubang charge in the final round.

Last year, Luisita collapsed under the weight of Canlubang’s final day charge after taking an 18-point lead in the first round.

Over at Marapara, Valley Golf Club sizzled with 139 points to grab the lead in the Founder’s division.

Cris San Agustin scored 50 points to power Valley to a two-point lead over Eagle Ridge. Other Valley scorers were Romy Ricardo (46) and either Bong Vilchez and Boni Sumbilla who had identical 43s.

After two rounds, Valley has 265 points.

Eagle Ridge posted 131 points to take second place at 263 while Orchard to trail Valley by four points.
