Officials warn vs measles, other viruses
The Cavite Provincial Health Office (CPHO) called on residents to be wary of “tigdas” (measles) and other viruses that are prevalent during the hot season.
Provincial Epidemiologist Nelson Soriano said the so-called summer diseases can be avoided with right measures and dose of medicine.
It is best to see a doctor if one is afflicted by “tigdas” or any other diseases as they can cause complications if not treated well, said Soriano.
Soriano said that the national and local health offices have to remind the people about the diseases often to prevent the people from getting sick.
He said that those afflicted can go to health centers and hospitals for treatment.
Medical studies revealed that some viruses strike in populous areas. Cavite is the most densely-populated province in the country, records showed.
Soriano said that some common ailments during the summer season are diarrhea, cholera, hepatitis, and even food poisoning.
“We have to be careful about the food and water that we take to avoid them (the ailments),” he said in an interview.
Soriano claimed that it is best for everyone to avoid eating street-vended foods and drinking tap water.
“When eating foods and drinking water, make sure they are not contaminated,” he said.
